Adjectivecomparative (comparative more comparative, superlative most comparative)
NounWikipedia has an article on: ComparativeWikipedia comparative (plural comparatives)
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. In grammar, the comparative is the form of an adjective or adverb which denotes the degree or grade by which a person, thing, or other entity has a property or quality greater or less in extent than that of another, and is used in this context with a subordinating conjunction, such as than, as...as, etc. If three or more items are being compared, the corresponding superlative needs to be used instead. StructureThe structure of a comparative in English consists normally of the positive form of the adjective or adverb, plus the suffix -er, or (in the case of polysyllabic words borrowed from foreign languages) the modifier more (or less/fewer) before the adjective or adverb. The form is usually completed by than and the noun which is being compared, e.g. "He is taller than his father", or "The village is less picturesque than the town nearby". Than is used as a subordinating conjunction to introduce the second element of a comparative sentence while the first element expresses the difference, as in "Our new house is larger than the old one", "There is less water in Saudi Arabia than in the United States", "There are fewer people in Canada than in California." GNU Free Documentation License What is the difference between absolute advantage and comparative advantage? Q. I have a final on economics coming up soon and I can't seem to understand the difference between the two. I also don't understand what comparative advantage really is too. All I know is that absolute advantage is when a country can produce more of a good than another. In addition, if you can provide a simple example to your answer. Thanks. If that detailed answer doesn't help, just google it and research it more in depth. :] Answered by ~ Autumn Leaf ~ - Sun Jan 17 01:53:25 2010 Can anyone find me a AP Comparative Government study book to help me for the exam? Q. for one of the paragraphs i want to talk about how both Holden and Hamlet's family members died and how, but i was wondering if i should do that since its a comparative essay? what do you guys think Asked by Roberto M - Thu Jul 24 18:13:56 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Yes. You're allowed to explain and discuss any sort of plot events - in either book - as long as they help support the connection you're trying to make. Though, I would suggest you go a little deeper than just saying that both Hamlet and Holden lost family members, and go into how that loss influenced each of their actions and how they deal/dealt with situations.
