From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Unemployment benefits are payments made by the state or other authorized bodies to unemployed people. It may be based on a compulsory para-governmental insurance system. Depending on the jurisdiction and the status of the person, those sums may be meager, covering only basic needs (thus a form of basic (financial aid)), or may compensate the lost pay somewhat proportionally to the previous earned salary. They often are part of a larger social security scheme. Unemployment benefits are generally given only to those registering as unemployed, and often on conditions ensuring that they seek work and do not currently have a job. In some countries, a significant proportion of unemployment benefits are distributed by trade/labor unions, an arrangement known as the Ghent system. ArgentinaIn Argentina, successive administrations have used a variety of passive and active labor market interventions to protect workers against the consequences of economic shocks and the government’s key institutional response to combat the increase in poverty and unemployment created by the crisis was the launch of an active unemployment assistance program called Plan Jefas y Jefes de Hogar Desocupados (Program for Unemployed Heads of Households). Q. will i still get my unemployment insurance benefits after filling for bankrutpcy Asked by angel s - Fri Dec 8 05:03:07 2006 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments A. Unemployment is a government program. It's not affected by bankruptcy. Any money you RECEIVE then becomes subject to the conditions of the bankruptcy. Answered by mbrcatz - Fri Dec 8 09:23:29 2006 What is the Common Sense of increasing unemployment insurance three times more than what it is now? Q. The unemployment insurance is going to cost Employers Three Times more than what it is now because of high unemployment claims, which will cause employers to be forced to FIRE employees (thus no unemployment claim allowed). This seems totally stupid and will only cause more people to be unemployed, without any help. That should increase the crime rate of course and give more job openings on the police forces. Asked by ramarro smith shadow - Sat Oct 3 16:32:33 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. You are mistaken - employers and employees both PAY into that fund. With your kind of logic, pay raises should be stopped immediately, as this costs the employers more money, and they'll have to fire more people, in order to pay the ones that are keeping. The way employers are able to pay any costs and expenses in their business - is to raise their prices. Therefore, everyone who uses/buys their services & products will be paying for Unemployment (extra expense to write off profit) - no matter how much or how long the benefits last. Answered by dusty_titus - Sat Oct 3 17:32:52 2009 Can I qualify for an unemployment insurance extension?
Q. I was laid off about 5 years ago in Colorado. I received 26 weeks unemployment insurance but no extension as there was none then. I was laid off at 50, am now 55 and have not been able to find employment since though I have looked extensively. I have since moved to California. I hear there are now 2 extensions (of which I received none). Can I get these extensions now? Being unemployed I can sure use the funds. I don't think its fair that others are getting these long extensions while I did not. Asked by InvestorM - Wed Mar 25 04:06:19 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. The extension are only for those people that have been on unemployment and just ran out. If you have been unemployed for 5 years, then you are not eligible.
